Volkswagen Introduces e-Golf Touch | Westside Volkswagen

At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, Volkswagen had a lot to be excited about. Not only did they introduce the new electric microbus concept, but they also unveiled plans to bring gesture control to the masses with the e-Golf Touch.

The e-Golf Touch is one of Volkswagen’s two zero-emissions vehicles, the other being the BUDD-e electric microbus concept.

The e-Golf Touch’s next-generation infotainment system is proving that the technologies showcased by VW at CES 2015 are really coming to life and are nearing production.

The e-Golf Touch features the latest version of the Modular Infotainment Toolkit (MIB) with a 9.2-inch high-resolution display. All the functions and display are embedded in a sophisticated, clear glass surface.

In the e-Golf Touch, four touch-sensitive buttons face the driver (Menu, Home, Car, App) as well as a push-rotary switch. Next to the home screen are buttons that can be assigned to any of ten different functions, such as “Media” or “Phone”.

This car is the debut of Volkswagen’s latest generation of voice control technology. Volkswagen will be the first manufacturer to present a new “Keyword Activation” voice recognition function that will allow the driver to start voice recognition by simply saying something like, “Hello, Volkswagen.” This feature eliminates the need for physical activation, thus eliminating distractions.

The e-Golf Touch also features wireless charging for smartphones and other devices for all passengers.

Other features introduced in the e-Golf Touch include Electronic Voice Amplification (so front seat and back seat passengers can communicate more clearly), Personalization 2.0 (the ability to save desired features for a specific driver, so each driver can get what they want without having to rearrange), Media Control 3.0 (the rear-seat entertainment system of the future) as well as an updated Car-Net App Connect and WiFi capability.
